Parents & Friends of LASA (PFLASA)
Parents and Friends of the Liberal Arts and Science Academy
(PFLASA) operates as a resource to teachers, parents/guardians, and
students at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy by organizing
events to build a sense of school community, providing various
means for the LASA to communicate to parents/guardians and
students, and to raise needed funds for: 1) classroom materials, 2)
teacher and staff professional development, 3) books, 4)
educational and community events, and 5) equipment and other
resources that enhance the students' education
PFLASA compiles and distributes the "Lots of LASA" weekly
electronic newsletter to keep you up-to-date on school activities.
We collect information from students, teachers, parents/guardians
and the administration, so if you have any LASA school, club or
sports news be sure to submit it (submission links are located in
the newsletter). The deadline for submission is Thursday afternoon
for the following newsletter.

"Lots of LASA" newsletter.
PFLASA also has a LASA Facebook page. If you are on
click here and "like" our page.
To facilitate communication, PFLASA has regularly scheduled
meetings and parents/guardians are encouraged to attend. We
typically meet during the school year on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of
each month, with occasional variation. One evening meeting per
semester is scheduled to accommodate parents/guardians who are
unable to attend daytime meetings. A link to the meeting schedule
is posted on the LASA website under the Parents tab. Meeting times
are also announced in "Lots of LASA."
Magnet education support
PFLASA secures resources to support LASA administration and
faculty. We do this through cash purchases, in-kind donations, and
by linking outside resources to school needs.
PFLASA solicits financial support from the PFLASA community
through an annual fundraising appeal every fall. In addition, keep
your eyes open for "Wish Of The Week," an in-kind donation request
featured in "Lots of LASA."
Because LASA families are scattered all over Austin, PFLASA
recognizes the importance to build a sense of school community.
PFLASA organizes numerous social events to make LASA a school with
heart. Please volunteer whenever you are able.
Some of our events include a New Teacher Tour where incoming
teachers travel by school bus to visit a few LASA homes and meet
LASA families on each end of town; a Welcome Back to School lunch
for teachers and staff; Bring Your Parent to School Days where you
can attend your student's classes; Coffee House, LASA's evening
under the stars featuring student entertainment; Senior Salute, an
end-of-the-year, off-campus event to send off the seniors in-style;
and so much more.
